Hevo Data
No-code pipelines into your warehouse, priced by events with the tiers printed on the page
Hevo Data is a managed, no-code data pipeline platform that replicates data from more than 150 SaaS applications, databases, and file stores into warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Databricks, with change data capture, Python and SQL transformations, and dbt integration, offered free for up to 1 million events a month and from $299 a month ($265 a month billed annually) for 5 million events on the Starter plan.
Overview
This category has two directions of travel, and Hevo sits firmly in the inbound one. It does what Fivetran and Airbyte do: pull data out of the tools a business runs on (Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe, Google Ads, Shopify, a production Postgres database) and land it, kept in sync, in a warehouse where analysts and dashboards can use it. It does not collect website events the way Segment or RudderStack do, and although it once offered reverse ETL under the name Activate, that product has been closed to new customers since July 2023.
Hevo's case against its better-known rivals is pricing that a small team can read. Fivetran bills on monthly active rows and Airbyte Cloud on volume synced, both of which make next month's bill hard to predict. Hevo publishes fixed tiers by events, where an event is any row inserted, updated, or deleted in the destination: a free plan with 1 million events a month, Starter from $299 a month ($265 annually) for 5 million, and Professional from $849 a month ($750 annually) for 20 million, with slider steps printed on the page up to 100 million. Usage over the quota is charged on demand per thousand events, and pipelines keep running through a grace buffer rather than stopping the moment a quota runs out.
Underneath is a capable pipeline engine. Database sources support log-based change data capture (MySQL binlog, PostgreSQL logical replication, SQL Server change tracking, MongoDB change streams), SaaS connectors handle API rate limits and schema changes, and transformations can be written in Python, built with drag-and-drop blocks, or run as SQL models and dbt projects in the same product. Security is a genuine strength: SOC 2 across all five trust services criteria, HIPAA with a business associate agreement, GDPR and CPRA support, and a choice of processing region among Frankfurt, Mumbai, Oregon, Virginia, Singapore, and Sydney at no extra cost.
Hevo was founded in 2017 by Manish Jethani and Sourabh Agarwal, previously the founders of the food delivery startup SpoonJoy, and is based in Bangalore and San Francisco. It raised an $8 million Series A in 2020 led by Qualgro and Lachy Groom, and a $30 million Series B in December 2021 led by Sequoia Capital India. The vendor claims more than 2,000 companies as customers and ships documented releases monthly. For a small business the honest framing is this: Hevo is excellent value if you already have, or are about to have, a warehouse and someone who will query it. If you do not, the free plan will not help much, and a tool that writes straight to dashboards, such as Dataddo, is a better fit.
Best for
Small data teams and technically capable analysts at growing companies who have a warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks) and want managed, reliable replication from SaaS tools and production databases at a predictable monthly price.
Not the right fit for
- Companies without a warehouse or anyone to query it. Hevo loads data into databases and warehouses, not into Looker Studio, Sheets, or a BI tool directly.
- Teams wanting to collect website and app events and fan them out to marketing tools. That is Segment, RudderStack, or Jitsu territory.
- Anyone shopping for reverse ETL to sync warehouse data into a CRM. Hevo's Activate product is available only to customers with existing activations, and only for HubSpot and Salesforce.
- Engineering teams that want to self-host or build their own connectors on an open-source framework. Hevo is managed-only; Airbyte is the self-hostable option.
- Very small companies whose data fits in a spreadsheet. The free plan's 1 million events is generous, but the first paid step is $299 a month.
How it works
- 1
You sign up on the website without a credit card and start either on the free plan or a 14-day trial. A pipeline is created by picking a source, authenticating it with credentials, an API key, or OAuth, and picking a destination warehouse or database.
- 2
For databases, you choose an ingestion mode: log-based change data capture where the database supports it, or table, delta-timestamp, or XMIN modes where it does not. Hevo performs a historical load, then streams or schedules incremental changes. For SaaS sources it polls the vendor's API on a schedule, handling rate limits and pagination.
- 3
The schema mapper creates and evolves destination tables automatically as the source schema changes. Before loading, events can be reshaped with Python code-based transformations or drag-and-drop blocks (splitting nested objects, masking or hashing sensitive fields, filtering deletes); after loading, SQL models and dbt projects build the tables analysts actually query.
- 4
Every row inserted, updated, or deleted in the destination counts as one billable event. Usage is shown against the plan's monthly quota; when the quota runs out a time-based buffer and optional on-demand credit keep pipelines loading, and if neither is topped up, new events wait in a replay queue until the quota refreshes or is increased.
Feature breakdown
23 features in 4 modulesIngestion
The connectors and replication modes that do the heavy lifting.- 150-plus managed connectors
- SaaS applications, databases, file stores, and ad platforms, maintained by Hevo as source APIs change. Paid plans include every source; the free plan is limited to Hevo's designated free sources.
- Log-based change data capture
- Near real-time replication from MySQL binlogs, PostgreSQL logical replication (pgoutput), SQL Server change tracking and CDC, and MongoDB oplog or change streams, without heavy queries against production.
- Alternative query modes
- Full load, delta-timestamp, and XMIN modes for databases or permissions that cannot support log-based capture, with guidance on the billing impact of each.
- File replication
- Large-scale ingestion from file stores such as Amazon S3, with folders loadable as separate event types.
- Free initial trial of new sources
- On paid plans, the first 14 days of events from a source you have never used before are free, so a new connector can be tested without burning quota.
- Streaming pipelines
- Continuous rather than scheduled pipelines for latency-sensitive workloads. Business Critical plan.
Destinations and modeling
Where the data lands and how it gets into shape.- Warehouse and database destinations
- Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift and Redshift Serverless, Databricks, Azure Synapse, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Aurora MySQL, and Amazon S3, plus a Hevo-managed BigQuery option for teams without their own warehouse account.
- Automatic schema mapping
- Destination tables are created and evolved as source schemas change, with controls for column types, primary keys, table prefixes, and deduplication.
- Python transformations
- Code-based transformations on events before they load: reformatting, splitting nested records, masking or hashing PII, and filtering.
- Drag-and-drop transformations
- The same pre-load reshaping built from visual blocks, for analysts who do not write Python.
- SQL models and dbt
- Post-load models in SQL, dbt projects, and Hevo Transformer jobs run together, with continuous integration jobs for transformation projects. dbt integration starts on Starter.
- Multiple destinations per plan
- One subscription loads to several destinations, with production and development pipelines in the same account at no extra charge.
Operations and automation
What keeps pipelines running without someone watching them.- Observability and alerts
- Pipeline logs, load status, failed-event troubleshooting, and alerts that can be routed to email and to third-party applications.
- Replay queue and events buffer
- Failed or over-quota events are parked and replayed rather than lost, and a time-based buffer keeps pipelines loading after a quota runs out.
- Pipeline APIs
- APIs for creating and managing pipelines, sources, and destinations, for orchestration and CI/CD. Professional plan and above.
- Orchestration with external tools
- Pipelines can be triggered and sequenced from external orchestrators, with a Run Now control for on-demand loads.
- Marketplace subscriptions
- Buy through AWS Marketplace or Snowflake Marketplace to draw down existing cloud commitments.
Security and access
The area where Hevo is stronger than its price suggests.- SOC 2 across all five criteria
- Audited by AICPA independent auditors for security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.
- HIPAA with a BAA
- HIPAA security, privacy, and breach notification requirements met, with a business associate agreement available; HIPAA compliance is listed on the Business Critical plan.
- Regional processing
- Choose Frankfurt, Mumbai, Oregon, Virginia, Singapore, or Sydney during onboarding; pipeline data does not leave the region, at no additional cost.
- Encryption and isolation
- A unique encryption key and team ID per customer in a multi-tenant environment, with pipeline data held only temporarily before it is processed, skipped, or deleted.
- Private connectivity
- SSH and SSL on Starter, reverse SSH on Professional, and VPC peering, VPC endpoints, PrivateLink, and IPSec VPN on Business Critical.
- SSO and role-based access
- Google authentication enforcement for teams, with SAML single sign-on, role-based access control, and multiple workspaces on Business Critical.
Use cases
4 documentedTwo-person data team at a growing SaaS company
Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe, and the production Postgres database all need to land in Snowflake, and the Fivetran quote on monthly active rows was impossible to forecast.
Starter at $299 a month ($265 annually) for 5 million events, with CDC from Postgres and dbt models on top, gives a fixed monthly figure and the slider shows the next step before it is needed.
Ecommerce analyst building a first warehouse
Shopify, Google Ads, and Meta data sit in three dashboards that never agree, and leadership wants one report on marketing return.
The free plan covers a trial run on Hevo's free sources up to 1 million events; paid sources and dbt models on Starter produce one modelled table for the BI tool.
Healthcare startup with patient data in its app database
The analytics warehouse needs production data, but the compliance review blocks any vendor without HIPAA commitments and regional control.
Hevo signs a business associate agreement, processes data in the chosen region, and masks PHI fields with pre-load transformations before they reach the warehouse.
Team migrating off a pricier ELT contract
The company is locked into an annual contract with another pipeline vendor whose bill has grown with row counts.
Hevo offers a contract buyout eligibility check and a professional services add-on for migration, and the 14-day free trial of each new source lets pipelines be rebuilt before cutting over.
Pricing
from $0 (Free, 1 million events a month); Starter from $299 per month, or $265 per month billed annually, for 5 million eventsTiered subscriptions metered on events, where each row inserted, updated, or deleted in the destination counts as one event. Each tier has a slider of event quotas with published monthly and annual prices; usage above the quota is charged on demand per 1,000 events.
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 per month |
Once you move to a paid plan you cannot return to Free without contacting support. |
| Starter | $299 ($265 billed annually) per month for 5 million events |

| Professional | $849 ($750 billed annually) per month for 20 million events |
|
| Business Critical | Quoted annual |
|
Add-ons
- On-demand events (Charged on top of the plan, metered per 1,000 events): Rate not printed on the pricing page.
- Professional services for migration (Quoted)
Billing notes
- Monthly versus annual: Starter is $299 a month month to month or $265 billed annually at 5 million events, about 12 percent off; Professional is $849 or $750 at 20 million. Business Critical is annual only.
- An event is any row inserted, updated, or deleted in the destination, so frequently updated source tables consume quota quickly. Hevo's own docs warn that delta-timestamp mode can inflate billable events, and that pipeline frequency affects consumption.
- Over-quota usage is charged on demand in lots of 1,000 events. Pipelines are not paused immediately: a time-based buffer gives time to add events, after which new data waits in a replay queue until the quota refreshes or is raised.
- The first 14 days of events from a source you have never used are free on paid plans, which makes trying a new connector cheap.
- The free plan is limited to free sources and 1 million events; after upgrading, you cannot drop back to it without support's help.
- AWS Marketplace offers a pay-as-you-go public offer and private offers; on-demand credit is not available through AWS Marketplace subscriptions.
- Prices checked on hevodata.com/pricing/pipeline and the pricing plans documentation on 2026-09-26.
Value assessment: Hevo's pricing is its argument. A small data team replicating a handful of SaaS tools and one production database can usually live inside Starter's 5 to 20 million events for $299 to $499 a month, and knows that number in advance, which is not something Fivetran's row-based or Airbyte Cloud's volume-based billing reliably offers. The security package (SOC 2 across all five criteria, HIPAA, regional processing at no extra cost) is better than the price point suggests. The catch is the floor: $299 a month is real money for a small business, and the free plan's restriction to free sources means most useful pipelines start on Starter. For a company without a warehouse, Dataddo's dashboard-first plans from about $99 are the better value.

Strengths & limitations
Strengths
- Published tiers with exact monthly and annual prices at each event level, from free to 100 million events, which makes the bill predictable in a category known for surprises.
- A genuinely free plan with 1 million events a month and no credit card, plus a 14-day trial.
- Log-based change data capture for the major databases, so production data can be replicated without heavy queries.
- Python, drag-and-drop, SQL, and dbt transformations in one product.
- Strong security for the price: SOC 2 across all five trust criteria, HIPAA with a BAA, GDPR and CPRA support, and six selectable processing regions at no extra cost.
- Pipelines keep running through a quota overrun, with a buffer and a replay queue rather than dropped data.
- 24x7 live chat support from the first paid tier.
Limitations
- Inbound only: no website event collection, and reverse ETL (Activate) is closed to new customers and limited to HubSpot and Salesforce for existing ones.
- The free plan is limited to free sources, so most real pipelines begin at $299 a month.
- Event counting includes updates and deletes, so high-churn tables can burn through quota faster than row counts suggest.
- The on-demand rate for events above quota is not printed on the pricing page.
- No self-hosted or open-source option, and no framework for building your own connectors.
- Around 150 connectors is fewer than Airbyte's catalog; long-tail sources may be missing.
- Destinations are warehouses and databases only, not dashboards or spreadsheets.

5 alternativesHevo Data vs Estuary
from $0 (Developer, 10 GB a month on 2 connector instances); Cloud $0.50 per GB plus $100 per connector instance per month, billed monthlyEstuary suits teams feeding several destinations from database change streams, while Hevo's fixed event tiers remain simpler to budget for a handful of SaaS sources going into one warehouse.
Full Hevo Data vs Estuary comparisonHevo Data vs Fivetran
from Free for up to around 500,000 monthly active rows; paid usage from roughly $500 per month at modest volumesFivetran is the category benchmark, with a larger and more hardened connector catalog and a reliability reputation to match, billed on monthly active rows with a free tier around 500,000 rows. Hevo is cheaper and more predictable for small teams, publishing fixed tiers by events from $299 a month ($265 annually), with a free plan of 1 million events and comparable security certifications. Business-critical pipelines on long-tail sources favor Fivetran; a small team that needs to know next month's bill favors Hevo.
Full Hevo Data vs Fivetran comparisonHevo Data vs Airbyte
from Free self-hosted; Cloud usage-based with a trial credit, commonly from tens of dollars per month at small volumesAirbyte offers far more connectors, an open-source self-hosted edition, and a kit for building missing ones, at the cost of more variance in connector quality and more engineering attention. Hevo is managed-only with fewer connectors, but its pipelines are maintained for you and priced in published tiers rather than by volume synced. Teams with engineers and unusual sources should choose Airbyte; teams that want pipelines to be someone else's problem should choose Hevo.
Full Hevo Data vs Airbyte comparisonHevo Data vs Dataddo
from Free for a small number of flows; paid plans from roughly $99 per monthDataddo is built for less technical buyers and can write directly to dashboards and business tools, priced per flow from about $99 a month. Hevo writes only to warehouses and databases, adds CDC, Python and dbt transformations, and deeper security, from $299 a month. A marketing team reporting in Looker Studio without a warehouse should take Dataddo; a company with a warehouse and an analyst who writes SQL should take Hevo.
Full Hevo Data vs Dataddo comparisonHevo Data vs Hightouch
from Free tier for limited syncs; paid plans commonly from several hundred dollars per monthComplements more than competitors, now that Hevo's own reverse ETL is closed to new customers. Hevo fills the warehouse from SaaS tools and databases; Hightouch syncs modelled warehouse data back out to CRM, ad, and support tools. A team that wants both directions should run Hevo inbound and Hightouch outbound rather than expect either to do both.

Full Hevo Data stackImplementation & onboarding
- Setup time
- Minutes for a first SaaS pipeline, and a day or two for production database replication with CDC, since log-based capture needs database settings, a replication user, and sometimes network tunnels. Historical loads of large tables take longer than the setup itself.
- Learning curve
- Low for creating pipelines through the interface. Moderate for the parts that decide cost and correctness: choosing ingestion modes, understanding how updates and deletes count as events, and building models or dbt projects on top.
- Onboarding
- Self-serve with extensive documentation and a 14-day trial. Starter includes one-time setup assistance; Business Critical adds a dedicated data architect and account manager. A professional services add-on covers migrations from other ELT tools.
- Migration notes
- Re-point sources one at a time and use the 14-day free window on new sources to backfill before switching reports over. Estimate event consumption from update frequency, not row counts, and prefer log-based CDC over delta-timestamp mode where possible, since Hevo's docs note the latter can raise billable events. Destination tables created by another tool will not match Hevo's naming and metadata columns, so plan to repoint models.

Frequently asked questions
13 questionsWhat is Hevo Data?
Hevo Data is a managed, no-code data pipeline platform. It replicates data from more than 150 SaaS applications, databases, and file stores into a warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks, keeps it in sync with change data capture and scheduled loads, and lets you transform it with Python, drag-and-drop blocks, SQL models, or dbt.
How much does Hevo cost?
The Free plan is $0 for 1 million events a month on free sources. Starter is $299 a month ($265 billed annually) for 5 million events, $499 for 20 million, and $949 for 50 million. Professional is $849 a month ($750 annually) for 20 million events, rising to $2,199 for 100 million. Business Critical is quoted and annual only. There is a 14-day free trial.
What counts as an event?
Each record inserted, updated, or deleted in the destination counts as one event. That means a table whose rows change often consumes more events than its row count suggests, and the ingestion mode you choose affects consumption; Hevo's docs note delta-timestamp mode can inflate billable events.
What happens if I go over my event quota?
Pipelines are not paused immediately. Extra usage is charged on demand in lots of 1,000 events, and a time-based buffer keeps data loading while you add capacity. If you do not, new events wait in a replay queue until the quota resets or you upgrade, so data is delayed rather than lost.
Is the free plan useful?
For evaluation and small workloads, yes: 1 million events a month, up to 5 users, and hourly scheduling with no credit card. It is limited to Hevo's free sources, though, so most business-critical connectors require a paid plan, and once you upgrade you cannot move back to Free without contacting support.
Does Hevo do reverse ETL?
Not for new customers. Its reverse ETL product, Activate, is available only to customers with existing activations and, since July 18, 2023, only for HubSpot and Salesforce targets. For syncing warehouse data into business tools, pair Hevo with Hightouch or Census.
Hevo vs Fivetran: which should a small team pick?
Fivetran has the larger, more hardened connector catalog and bills on monthly active rows. Hevo publishes fixed tiers by events, starts at $299 a month with a 1-million-event free plan, and is usually easier to budget. Pick Fivetran for long-tail sources where reliability is critical; pick Hevo when a predictable bill matters more.
Is Hevo secure enough for regulated data?
It is one of the stronger options at its price. Hevo reports SOC 2 across all five trust services criteria, meets HIPAA requirements with a business associate agreement, supports GDPR and CPRA with a DPA, and lets you choose a processing region (Frankfurt, Mumbai, Oregon, Virginia, Singapore, or Sydney) at no extra cost. HIPAA compliance is listed on the Business Critical plan.
Can I self-host Hevo?
No. Hevo is a managed cloud service only. Teams that need to run pipelines inside their own infrastructure should look at Airbyte's open-source edition; Hevo's alternatives are private connectivity options such as SSH tunnels, VPC peering, and PrivateLink.
Who is behind Hevo Data?
Hevo was founded in 2017 by CEO Manish Jethani and CTO Sourabh Agarwal and is based in Bangalore and San Francisco. It raised an $8 million Series A in 2020 and a $30 million Series B in December 2021 led by Sequoia Capital India. The vendor claims more than 2,000 companies as customers.
What should I pair Hevo Data with?
Hevo Data is a CDP tool, and a team running it still has 7 neighbouring categories to staff. The pick in each is Pendo for product analytics & session replay, Triple Whale for GTM analytics, Mailmodo for marketing automation, Resend for email service providers, Churn Solution for retention & churn prevention, Firecrawl for GTM engineering and Emotive for SMS marketing, each the leading tool in that category on published criteria.
What do I pair with Hevo Data for Product Analytics & Session Replay?
Pendo. Hevo Data is built for CDP, not product analytics. Pendo adds strong multi-product and account-level reporting.
Is Hevo Data enough on its own?
For CDP, yes. Hevo Data does not cover GTM analytics, marketing automation and email service providers, and its own profile says so; Triple Whale, Mailmodo and Resend are the tools that fill those gaps.
Editorial verdict
Hevo is the ELT tool for a small data team that wants Fivetran's managed convenience without Fivetran's billing uncertainty. It publishes every step of its pricing, free to 1 million events and $299 a month ($265 annually) for 5 million on Starter, keeps pipelines running through a quota overrun instead of dropping data, and backs that with change data capture, dbt and Python transformations, and a security package (SOC 2 across all five criteria, HIPAA, regional processing) that is stronger than the price suggests. Be clear about what it is not: it collects no website events, its reverse ETL is closed to new customers, and it writes only to warehouses and databases. A small business without a warehouse and an analyst should not start here. One that has both, and a growing list of SaaS tools to consolidate, will find few better-value ways to fill the warehouse.
