Screaming Frog SEO Spider compared with SEO PowerSuite

SEO PowerSuite bundles a crawler, WebSite Auditor, with unmetered rank tracking, a backlink index and an outreach tool for $349 a year, against Screaming Frog's $279 for the crawler alone. Screaming Frog is the deeper crawler, with finer configuration, custom extraction and the reputation practitioners trust. Buy Screaming Frog when crawling is the job; buy SEO PowerSuite when you would otherwise pay separately for rank tracking and links.

SEO PowerSuite compared with Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Screaming Frog is the better pure crawler, with deeper configuration, custom extraction and a flat $279 a year that buys nothing else. SEO PowerSuite's WebSite Auditor is a capable crawler too, and for $349 a year it comes with unmetered rank tracking, a backlink index and an outreach tool. Buy Screaming Frog if crawling is the job; buy SEO PowerSuite if you would otherwise pay separately for rank tracking and links.

Setup timeTen minutes to install and run a first crawl. Configuring it properly for a large or JavaScript-heavy site, including rendering, storage mode, exclusions, and API connections, takes a couple of hours the first time and is then reusable as a saved configuration.About half an hour to download and install the four applications and create a first project. A full crawl of a mid-sized site takes anywhere from minutes to hours depending on the machine and connection.
Learning curveSteep for a non-specialist and shallow for anyone who already understands technical SEO. Strengths and limitations

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Strengths

  • Flat $279 per year with unlimited crawling and no metering anywhere, against hosted crawlers that ration pages per month inside far more expensive subscriptions.
  • More than 300 detected issue types with genuinely forensic depth, including canonical, hreflang, directive, and structured data analysis that hosted auditors summarise rather than expose.
  • Headless Chromium rendering makes it one of the few tools that will audit a modern JavaScript application honestly.
  • Custom extraction with XPath, CSS selectors, and regex turns it into a general-purpose site data extractor, which is why non-SEO teams end up using it too.

Limitations

  • It owns no index. No keyword data, no backlink data, no rank tracking, and no competitive research, so it is always a second tool rather than a first one.
  • The interface is a dense spreadsheet with no health score and no prioritised action list, which makes it hostile to non-technical users.
  • Unlimited crawling is bounded by your own hardware, and large crawls require configuring database storage mode and having the memory and disk to back it.
  • No hosted dashboards, no client portal, and no white-label reporting; output is exports and spreadsheets.

SEO PowerSuite

Strengths

  • Unlimited keywords, projects, crawling and backlinks on paid editions, so cost does not rise as a client list grows.
  • A permanent free edition of all four tools that is genuinely useful for a one-off audit of a small site.
  • Rank tracking across more than 550 search engines with Google AI Overviews citation tracking included.
  • A full crawler, a backlink index of about 6.5 trillion links and an outreach manager in one licence, which normally means three vendors.

Limitations

  • Desktop software: crawls and rank checks need the machine running, and large sites tie it up.
  • No monthly billing and no refunds for unused time, so the commitment is a year at minimum.
  • White-label and scheduled reports start at $599 on Enterprise; Professional reports are watermarked when printed.
  • No prompt-level tracking of ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini answers, only Google AI Overviews.

Pricing compared

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Flat annual per-licence software fee with unlimited crawling, no credits and no metered index, plus a separately licensed Log File Analyser and progressive volume discounts.

  • Free$0
  • SEO Spider licence$279
  • SEO Spider volume licensing$265 to $235
  • Log File Analyser$139

Screaming Frog is the best value purchase in this entire category, and the comparison is not close because it is not the same kind of purchase. $279 per year buys unlimited crawling forever, against hosted auditors metering 250,000 or 2 million pages per month inside subscriptions costing four to twenty times as much. A ten-person agency licences everyone for $2,490 a year, roughly what one Ahrefs Advanced seat plus its per-user surcharge costs over the same period. The reason the price can be this low is that Screaming Frog owns no index and rents you no data; it sells you a program that runs on your machine. That is also its limitation. You still need a keyword and backlink subscription somewhere, and the correct way to think about this is that the crawler is the cheap part of your stack that should never have been a subscription in the first place.

SEO PowerSuite

Annual desktop licences for the four-tool bundle, sold for one, two or three years up front, with unlimited projects, keywords, crawling and backlinks on paid editions. Each tool is also sold on its own.

  • Free$0
  • Professional$349
  • Enterprise$599
  • Max+$899

SEO PowerSuite is the cheapest way to get unmetered rank tracking, a full-site crawler and a large backlink index in one purchase, and for a freelancer tracking thousands of keywords the arithmetic is not close: $349 a year against cloud trackers that charge that much in two or three months at the same volume. What you give up is the convenience of a browser tool, a shared web workspace and any refund once you have paid. The data is credible rather than best in class, and the interface shows its age. For a buyer who works from one machine and prices by the year, it is excellent value; for a team that lives in the browser and wants to pay monthly, it is the wrong shape.

Editorial verdict on each

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Screaming Frog is the tool in this category whose pricing makes the most sense, because it is honest about what it is selling. There is no index to rent, so there is nothing to meter, so a licence costs $279 a year and crawls as much as your laptop can handle. Set that against hosted auditors rationing 250,000 pages a month inside subscriptions costing several times more and the arithmetic barely needs stating. What you get is genuinely forensic: headless Chromium rendering that audits JavaScript applications honestly, custom extraction with XPath and regex, scheduled crawls and command line operation, crawl comparison for demonstrating progress, and in 2026 the option of running AI prompts against your pages using a local model so nothing leaves your network. What you do not get is any data of its own, any dashboard, or any help for a non-technical user. Buy it as the crawler in a stack that already has a keyword and link subscription somewhere else, start with the free 500-URL version, and licence the whole team when you outgrow it.

SEO PowerSuite

SEO PowerSuite is the right purchase for a freelancer or small agency that tracks a lot of keywords, audits whole sites and prices tools by the year. It is unmetered where every cloud competitor meters something, it covers rankings, crawling, backlinks and outreach in one $349 licence, and its free edition is useful in its own right. The trade is real: desktop software that ties up your machine, four interfaces to learn, no monthly option, no refunds, and branded reports only at $599. Test the free edition on your own site first. If the desktop model fits how you work, nothing else in the category gives you this much capacity for the money.
