The short answer
Editorial assessmentMetrilo compared with Repeat Customer Insights
Both go deeper on retention than typical dashboards, at opposite ends of scope. Repeat Customer Insights is a focused Shopify app doing RFM, cohorts, and product-level retention analysis with written advice, from $59. Metrilo is a broad multi-platform CRM and analytics suite at several times that. Choose Repeat for depth of analysis on Shopify, Metrilo when you need the customer database itself and are not on Shopify.
Choose Metrilo if
Direct-to-consumer brands, particularly outside Shopify, that want a real customer database with behavioral segmentation, retention cohorts, and email in one platform rather than assembling an analytics app, a segmentation app, and an ESP with three different definitions of a customer.
Choose Repeat Customer Insights if
Consumer packaged goods and consumable Shopify brands with real repeat-purchase history that want deep RFM and cohort analysis, product-level retention insight, and automatic segment syncing to Shopify tags and Klaviyo, with written interpretation rather than raw charts.

| Setup time | Connection to the store is quick, but the value depends on historical data loading and on behavioral tracking accumulating, so plan a few weeks before segmentation reflects a full picture rather than only recent activity. | Minutes to install, then a first analysis pass over the store's order history. Meaningful output arrives the same day, with the fourteen-day trial covering enough time to validate it against what you already believe about the store. |
| Learning curve | Moderate. There is more surface here than in a single-purpose segmentation app: analytics, a customer database, retention analysis, and email each have their own conventions. The upside is that unlimited seats let a team learn it together rather than through one gatekeeper. | Low to moderate. The written advice absorbs most of the analytical burden, which is the point of the product. What takes work is acting on it, since replenishment timing and merchandising changes have to be implemented in Klaviyo and the store itself. |

Strengths and limitations
Metrilo
Strengths
- A genuine customer database rather than a reporting layer, with individual profiles carrying browsing and purchase history.
- Works across multiple ecommerce platforms rather than being locked to Shopify, which is rare in this category.
- Segmentation, retention analysis, and email in one product, removing the problem of maintaining the same audience in several tools.
- Cohort comparisons and lifetime metrics that make retention a property of specific customer groups rather than one company-wide number.
Limitations
- The customer database and segmentation start on the $379 Pro tier, so the $199 entry price is misleading for segmentation buyers.
- No syncing of segments to Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok as advertising audiences.
- Several times more expensive than the Shopify segmentation apps that cover the same core job.
- Heavy overlap with Klaviyo for brands already committed to it, particularly on email and behavioral segmentation.
Repeat Customer Insights
Strengths
- Written advice tied to the store's own metrics, which is the interpretation layer almost every competing tool leaves to the operator.
- Deep repurchase and cohort analysis built specifically for consumables and CPG, where the second order determines the business.
- Product-level insight into which items drive retention and average order value, not just revenue.
- Automatic Shopify customer tagging and Klaviyo sync, so segments drive both store logic and email flows.
Limitations
- No sync to Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok, so paid social and search audiences must be handled elsewhere.
- Shopify only, with no support for other ecommerce platforms.
- Customer tagging requires the $99 tier, and the $59 plan is limited to two years of history.
- Considerably more expensive than the cheapest RFM apps in this category.
Pricing compared
Metrilo
Flat monthly subscription in three tiers, discounted about seventeen percent on annual billing, with the CRM, segmentation, and retention layers arriving on the middle tier.
- Essential$199
- Pro$379
- PremiumFrom $599
Priced against the Shopify segmentation apps, Metrilo looks expensive: $379 for the tier with segmentation, against $19 for By the Numbers or $149 for Tresl. Priced against what it replaces, it looks different, because it is analytics, a customer database, and email in one product with unlimited seats and no platform lock to Shopify. The decision comes down to two questions. If you are on Shopify and already use Klaviyo, most of this is duplicated and the specialists are far cheaper. If you are on another platform, or you want one system rather than three, there are very few alternatives at any price.
Repeat Customer Insights
Flat monthly subscription in three tiers sold through the Shopify App Store, rising by depth of analysis, history included, and number of sales channels.
- Entrepreneur$59
- Growth$99
- Peak$249
At $59 to $249 this is priced above the cheap RFM apps and below the analytics suites, and what the premium buys is interpretation. By the Numbers gives more raw segmentation surface for $19 and syncs to more ad platforms; Repeat gives deeper repurchase and cohort analysis with written advice attached and a decade of continuous operation behind it. For a consumables brand where the second order decides the business, the analysis depth is worth the difference. For a store that mainly needs audiences pushed into Meta and Google, it is not, because those syncs do not exist here.
Editorial verdict on each
Metrilo
Metrilo is the option for DTC brands that want to own the customer database rather than rent a view of it, and for the many brands whose platform is not Shopify and who therefore cannot use most of this category. Individual behavioral profiles, cohort retention analysis, and email in one system solve a real coordination problem, and unlimited seats mean the whole team can work in it. Two things should decide the purchase. The price of the capability is $379, not the $199 on the pricing page, because segmentation starts on the Pro tier. And if you are a Shopify store already running Klaviyo, most of what this does is duplicated for far less money by the specialists in this category. Off Shopify, or consolidating three tools into one, it earns the premium.

Repeat Customer Insights is the most analytically serious tool in this category and the one most likely to change what a consumables brand actually does. Repurchase intervals, loyalty funnels, and product-level influence on retention are the measurements that decide whether a CPG business compounds, and the written advice layer converts them into decisions in a way no competing app attempts. The limitations are specific and easy to check against your own needs: activation stops at Shopify tags and Klaviyo, with no Meta, Google, or TikTok syncing, and the useful tier is $99 rather than the $59 headline. The vendor is one developer, which is both the reason support answers within a day and the risk you accept. If the second order is what your business runs on, this is the tool to buy; if you mainly need audiences in ad platforms, buy elsewhere.
