Both sides assessed

Metrilo compared with Putler

Putler is a much cheaper multi-platform alternative, from $20 a month for businesses under $10,000 in revenue against Metrilo's $199 entry and $379 segmentation tier, with automatic RFM segments, Mailchimp export, and payment gateway consolidation. Metrilo answers with a CRM profile per customer and its own email sending. Small multi-platform sellers should look at Putler first; brands wanting CRM and email in one system still have Metrilo.

Putler compared with Metrilo

Both work beyond Shopify. Metrilo is an ecommerce CRM from $199 a month, reaching segmentation and its own email sending on the $379 tier. Putler starts at $20 for businesses under $10,000 a month, includes RFM segments and Mailchimp export, and consolidates payment gateways as well as stores. For a small multi-platform seller Putler costs a fraction as much; Metrilo suits a brand that wants a CRM profile and email in one system.

Choose Metrilo if

Direct-to-consumer brands, particularly outside Shopify, that want a real customer database with behavioral segmentation, retention cohorts, and email in one platform rather than assembling an analytics app, a segmentation app, and an ESP with three different definitions of a customer.

Choose Putler if

Small online businesses that sell across more than one store, marketplace, or payment gateway, including digital product and subscription sellers, and want one clean customer list with automatic RFM segments and CSV or Mailchimp export, at a price that starts at $20 a month for businesses under $10,000 in monthly revenue.

Setup timeConnection to the store is quick, but the value depends on historical data loading and on behavioral tracking accumulating, so plan a few weeks before segmentation reflects a full picture rather than only recent activity. The vendor says connecting accounts takes 10 to 15 minutes. Import and processing follow, and the RFM chart appears once processing finishes; a redraw takes about 90 minutes according to the help center.
Learning curveModerate. There is more surface here than in a single-purpose segmentation app: analytics, a customer database, retention analysis, and email each have their own conventions. The upside is that unlimited seats let a team learn it together rather than through one gatekeeper.Low. RFM segments are ready without configuration and the dashboards need no setup; filters, saved segments, and drilldowns take a little exploration.

Strengths and limitations

Metrilo

Strengths

  • A genuine customer database rather than a reporting layer, with individual profiles carrying browsing and purchase history.
  • Works across multiple ecommerce platforms rather than being locked to Shopify, which is rare in this category.
  • Segmentation, retention analysis, and email in one product, removing the problem of maintaining the same audience in several tools.
  • Cohort comparisons and lifetime metrics that make retention a property of specific customer groups rather than one company-wide number.

Limitations

  • The customer database and segmentation start on the $379 Pro tier, so the $199 entry price is misleading for segmentation buyers.
  • No syncing of segments to Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok as advertising audiences.
  • Several times more expensive than the Shopify segmentation apps that cover the same core job.
  • Heavy overlap with Klaviyo for brands already committed to it, particularly on email and behavioral segmentation.

Putler

Strengths

  • Consolidates payment gateways, stores, marketplaces, and Google Analytics into one de-duplicated customer list, which no Shopify-only app in this category attempts.
  • Eleven named RFM segments calculated automatically and redrawn every 24 hours, with segment membership for any date range.
  • Works across PayPal, Stripe, WooCommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, Etsy, eBay, Amazon, Gumroad, and Easy Digital Downloads.
  • Direct segment export to Mailchimp, plus CSV export for anything else.

Limitations

  • No live audience sync to Klaviyo, Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok; activation is CSV and Mailchimp.
  • RFM segments are fixed and automatic, with no documented way to change the scoring.
  • Revenue-based pricing penalizes high-ticket businesses and climbs to $750 a month at $500,000 to $1 million in revenue.
  • No published annual rate, and plan limits on data sources and history are not published per band.

Pricing compared

Metrilo

Flat monthly subscription in three tiers, discounted about seventeen percent on annual billing, with the CRM, segmentation, and retention layers arriving on the middle tier.

  • Essential$199
  • Pro$379
  • PremiumFrom $599

Priced against the Shopify segmentation apps, Metrilo looks expensive: $379 for the tier with segmentation, against $19 for By the Numbers or $149 for Tresl. Priced against what it replaces, it looks different, because it is analytics, a customer database, and email in one product with unlimited seats and no platform lock to Shopify. The decision comes down to two questions. If you are on Shopify and already use Klaviyo, most of this is duplicated and the specialists are far cheaper. If you are on another platform, or you want one system rather than three, there are very few alternatives at any price.

Putler

Metered monthly subscription priced by the business's monthly revenue as tracked by Putler over the previous 30 days. The plan moves between revenue bands automatically each month. All plans share the core feature set, with unlimited orders; the pricing page says plans differ in the number of data sources, and the custom plan also asks about years of historical data. At the bottom of the market Putler is good value for a particular kind of business. A seller under $10,000 a month pays $20 for automatic RFM segments across every store and gateway it uses, data cleanup that the single-store apps never attempt, and sales and subscription reporting besides, which is about what By the Numbers charges for one Shopify store. The value case turns on activation and on scale. If segments need to reach Klaviyo, Meta, or Google Ads on their own, By the Numbers, Tresl, or Metorik do that and Putler does not. And because the meter is revenue rather than orders, a high-ticket business pays more than on Metorik, where $250 covers up to 5,000 orders; at $200,000 in monthly revenue Putler costs $350. The unresolved question of which bands include RFM, given older documentation, is worth settling in the trial.

Editorial verdict on each

Metrilo

Metrilo is the option for DTC brands that want to own the customer database rather than rent a view of it, and for the many brands whose platform is not Shopify and who therefore cannot use most of this category. Individual behavioral profiles, cohort retention analysis, and email in one system solve a real coordination problem, and unlimited seats mean the whole team can work in it. Two things should decide the purchase. The price of the capability is $379, not the $199 on the pricing page, because segmentation starts on the Pro tier. And if you are a Shopify store already running Klaviyo, most of what this does is duplicated for far less money by the specialists in this category. Off Shopify, or consolidating three tools into one, it earns the premium.

Putler

Putler earns a place in this category for the business the Shopify apps cannot see: one that sells through several gateways, carts, and marketplaces and has never had a single, trustworthy customer list. It merges PayPal, Stripe, WooCommerce, Etsy, Amazon, and the rest into master records, then hands you eleven automatic RFM segments redrawn daily, saved and editable filters, and export to Mailchimp or CSV, for $20 a month under $10,000 in revenue. The limits are just as clear. There is no live audience sync to Klaviyo or the ad platforms, the RFM model cannot be tuned, revenue-based pricing gets expensive for high-ticket sellers, no annual rate is published, there are no refunds, and older help articles leave it unclear whether RFM is on every revenue band. Multi-channel sellers under a few hundred thousand dollars a month should trial it; single-store Shopify brands with a Klaviyo program should start with By the Numbers or Tresl.
