Userflow
A famously fast flow builder, now sold as Essentials and Studio with a user-facing AI agent on Studio
Userflow is a no-code product adoption platform for SaaS companies, that proactively deploys tours, checklists, tooltips, banners, launchers, surveys, and NPS to targeted segments, and, on its Studio and Enterprise plans, adds Adoption Agent, an in-app AI assistant that answers user questions, surfaces the right flow, and can complete multi-step tasks on the user's behalf.
Overview
Userflow built its reputation the hard way: two Danish founders, no outside funding, and a builder that people who evaluate these tools for a living kept describing as the fastest and most pleasant in the category. By the time Beamer acquired the company in 2024, three people were running roughly $4.6M in ARR, which is an unusual thing to be able to say about a product-led SaaS business.
The lineup changed twice in 2026. Earlier in the year Userflow briefly sold Adoption Studio and Adoption Agent as two separate products; the current pricing page (October 2026) replaces that with three plans. Essentials is $300 per month ($240 billed annually) for 1,000 monthly active users and covers proactive flows, checklists, surveys, and analytics with unlimited seats. Studio is $500 per month ($400 billed annually) for the same 1,000 MAU and adds Adoption Agent with 500 AI credits a month, Action Flows, custom CSS, SAML SSO, and the CRM integrations. Enterprise is custom.
Commercially, the standalone Agent product that started at $80 per month is gone; the AI assistant now comes only with Studio. That leaves Userflow among the more expensive entry points here for proactive onboarding at small volumes, offset by unlimited seats and unlimited experiences on every plan. Existing customers on older plans, including Startup, Pro, and the two-product lineup, keep their current plan and pricing.
Best for
SaaS teams that value a fast, pleasant builder and want AI in front of their users rather than only behind the scenes; specifically, funded teams that will pay $240 to $400 or more per month for proactive onboarding with unlimited flows and seats, and that want the in-app AI agent on Studio.
Not the right fit for
- Teams on a tight budget that specifically want proactive onboarding; Essentials at $240 per month annually covers just 1,000 MAU, and Product Fruits or Chameleon's Startup plan will cost far less.
- Anyone who needs email or push notifications; Userflow is in-app only, so lifecycle messaging lives elsewhere.
- Buyers who want predictable AI costs; Studio includes 500 Adoption Agent credits a month, a credit is used each time the agent answers a question, and extra credits cost $50 per month for 500, so a busy support month is a variable bill.
- Small teams that want the AI agent or SAML SSO; both sit on Studio and above, not on Essentials.
How it works
- 1
You install the Userflow JavaScript snippet and identify users with attributes and group memberships. Installation is deliberately light: the company's own FAQ says building flows needs no engineering, and the only technical step is dropping in the snippet, which typically takes minutes.
- 2
Flows are built once in the no-code builder and reach users two ways. Every plan deploys them proactively on auto-start conditions (attribute, page, event, segment) with AND and OR logic, A/B testing, and frequency control. On Studio and Enterprise, Adoption Agent deploys the same flows reactively when a user's chat message matches, which means you do not maintain two libraries.
- 3
FlowAI is the assistive layer for builders: generate a flow from a prompt, and read Signals and Actions that suggest what to build and change. Adoption Agent trains on your knowledge sources, so when no flow fits a question it answers from your documentation rather than dead-ending the user.
- 4
Action Flows are the 2026 addition that pushes past guidance into doing: you record a task once, and the agent can complete that multi-step task on behalf of a user rather than only explaining it. Alongside that, an MCP endpoint lets Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Cursor query Userflow data directly.
Feature breakdown
23 features in 5 modulesFlow builder and delivery
The part that earned the product its reputation, on every plan.- No-code flow builder
- The core builder, consistently cited by evaluators as one of the fastest in the category; flows are authored once and used both proactively and by Adoption Agent.
- Guided tours and tooltips
- Multi-step walkthroughs and element-anchored hints, included on every plan and also launched by Adoption Agent on Studio.
- Checklists and hotspots
- Onboarding task lists and ambient discovery markers, unlimited on every plan rather than capped by a live-experience count.
- Announcements and banners
- Product announcement patterns for launches, deprecations, and time-bound campaigns.
- Resource Center
- A persistent in-app help hub combining flows and content, so users have somewhere to go between guided moments; the white-labeled version is on Studio and above.
- Themes and full white-labeling
- Custom CSS and fully white-labeled experiences on Studio and Enterprise, with no vendor branding in the user-facing UI.
Adoption Agent
The reactive layer on Studio and Enterprise: AI that answers users and completes tasks for them.- In-app AI chat trained on your docs
- Users ask a question in the product and the agent answers from your knowledge sources, rather than routing them to a help article and hoping.
- AI-triggered flows
- When a relevant flow exists, the agent launches it in context, which turns a support answer into a guided walkthrough.
- Action Flows
- Record a task once and the agent can complete that multi-step job on behalf of the user, not merely explain it; no engineering required to record it.
- Agent conversation analytics
- Reporting on what users asked, what the agent answered, and where it failed, which doubles as a live map of product confusion.
- Credit metering
- A credit is used each time the agent answers a user's question. Studio includes 500 credits a month, and another 500 cost $50 per month; Enterprise allowances are custom.
Targeting and experimentation
The controls for deciding who sees what and proving it worked.- Auto-start conditions
- Flows trigger on user attribute, page, event, or segment; no-code custom event trackers on Studio and above let you instrument triggers without shipping code.
- AND and OR logic with frequency control
- Compound targeting rules plus frequency caps, which is what stops a well-intentioned onboarding program becoming an interruption.
- A/B testing
- Variant testing on experiences so copy and sequencing decisions are resolved with data.
- FlowAI Builder and Signals
- Generate flows from a prompt and receive AI signals about what to build or change.
Analytics and feedback
Enough measurement to run the program without buying a second tool for it.- Product analytics
- Charts, funnels, and dashboards over tracked events, included rather than sold as a separate module; history runs 6 months on Essentials and 12 on Studio.
- Event tracking and custom event groups
- No-code event tracking plus grouping, so activation milestones can be defined without an engineering ticket per event.
- NPS and in-app surveys
- Survey and NPS collection in the product, with responses usable in targeting.
Platform and administration
Unusual generosity on seats and experiences across every plan.- Unlimited team members
- Seats are not metered on any plan, which is a real cost advantage over Chameleon's $300 per five seats and Userpilot's tiered seat caps.
- Environments with their own data region
- Two environments on Essentials and three on Studio, each with its own US or EU data region; additional environments cost $100 per month on Studio.
- MCP server
- A Model Context Protocol endpoint so Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor can query Userflow data directly.
- MFA, Google SSO, and SAML
- MFA and Google SSO are on every plan; SAML SSO is included on Studio and Enterprise and not available on Essentials.
- Global data hosting
- US and EU data residency on Google Cloud Platform, chosen per environment, which is a genuine differentiator against US-only competitors in this set.
Use cases
4 documentedCustomer success lead at a 30-person SaaS company
Support tickets are dominated by how-do-I questions, the help center is comprehensive and unread, and there is no budget for a full onboarding platform.
Studio at $400 per month annually puts an AI assistant in the product that answers from the docs and launches the right walkthrough, alongside the proactive flows the team can build out over time from the same library.
Product team replacing hard-coded onboarding
The first-run experience lives in React components, changing it requires a sprint, and nobody has measured whether it helps.
Essentials rebuilds it as flows with auto-start conditions, A/B tests two versions, and reports activation through built-in funnels, all without a deploy per change.
Ops-minded founder cutting manual work
Users regularly ask the team to perform the same fiddly multi-step configuration, and the team does it manually because explaining it takes longer.
An Action Flow records the task once so the agent completes it for the user in-product, which is the first credible answer in this category to configuration work that guidance alone never fixes.
European SaaS company under GDPR scrutiny
Procurement rejected a previous vendor because user data would leave the EU, and the onboarding project stalled.
Userflow's EU data residency on Google Cloud, SOC 2 Type II certification, and stated policy of never using AI conversation data to train external models clears the review that US-only vendors fail.
Pricing
from $240/mo (Essentials, 1,000 MAU, billed annually; $300 monthly)Three plans metered on monthly active users: Essentials, Studio, and custom-priced Enterprise. Essentials and Studio each include 1,000 MAU, with graduated per-thousand pricing above that and custom pricing beyond 100,000 MAU. Every plan has unlimited seats and unlimited experiences; Studio adds Adoption Agent with 500 AI credits a month. Annual billing saves 20 percent, including on usage.
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $300 per month ($240 billed annually, $2,880 a year), including 1,000 monthly active users |
Quickstart onboarding is a one-time $500 on this plan; it is included on Studio and Enterprise. |
| Studio | $500 per month ($400 billed annually, $4,800 a year), including 1,000 monthly active users |
Marked most popular by the vendor, and the only self-serve way to get the in-app AI agent. |
| Enterprise | Custom billed annually |
|
| Legacy plans | Grandfathered existing customers only |
Articles quoting the old $80 per month Adoption Agent or $240 per month for 3,000 MAU describe retired plans. |
Add-ons
- Additional MAU (Essentials and Studio) ($40 per 1,000 MAU up to 10,000, $30 to 25,000, $22.50 to 100,000, $15 to 500,000, then $10): Graduated per-thousand pricing, 20 percent less on annual billing; above 100,000 MAU the self-serve plans move to a custom quote.
- Additional AI credits (Studio) ($50/mo per 500 credits): A credit is used each time Adoption Agent answers a user's question.
- Additional environments (Studio) ($100/mo each beyond the 3 included)
- Additional product (child) accounts ($250/mo each on Studio; custom on Enterprise)
- Quickstart onboarding ($500 one-time on Essentials): Included on Studio and Enterprise.
Billing notes
- Annual billing saves 20 percent ($240 versus $300 for Essentials, $400 versus $500 for Studio), quoted by the vendor as $720 and $1,200 a year, and the discount also applies to MAU usage.
- The in-app AI agent is no longer sold on its own; it comes with Studio, so a team that only wants AI help now pays the Studio price and its MAU meter.
- Studio's AI credits are a second meter on top of MAU: 500 a month are included and more cost $50 per month per 500.
- A MAU is anyone who visits the app where Userflow is installed within a rolling 30-day window, which is a broader definition than Chameleon's identified-profile count.
- Existing customers on Startup, Pro, or the earlier two-product lineup keep their plans and pricing; new buyers cannot access them. Figures are current as of October 2026.
Value assessment: Userflow is priced at the upper end for small volumes: Essentials at $240 per month annually for 1,000 MAU is roughly twice Product Fruits at similar volume, and the AI agent needs Studio at $400. What the money buys is the absence of the meters that quietly inflate rivals' bills, with unlimited seats and unlimited experiences on every plan. Teams that will build a lot of flows with a lot of collaborators get good value; teams that need a handful of tours for a small user base will pay less elsewhere.
Entry price history
Plans were restructured on 3 October 2026, so the current entry price is not directly comparable with the earlier one.
| Checked | Entry price | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 3 October 2026 | $240 | Userflow replaced its two-product lineup with Essentials, Studio and Enterprise plans. The standalone $80 Adoption Agent is gone and the agent now comes with Studio at $400; Essentials at $240 a month billed annually ($300 monthly) for 1,000 MAU is the new entry point. |
| 22 August 2026 | $80 | First recorded |

Strengths & limitations
Strengths
- The builder is widely considered the fastest and most pleasant in the category, which matters more than feature lists once you are shipping flows weekly.
- Unlimited seats and unlimited experiences on every plan remove two meters that rivals charge hard for, so a large team is not penalized for collaborating.
- Adoption Agent is the clearest user-facing AI in this set: it answers questions, launches flows, and with Action Flows actually completes tasks rather than explaining them.
- One flow library serves both delivery modes, so moving from Essentials to Studio adds the AI agent without a rebuild.
- Strong compliance posture with US and EU data residency on Google Cloud, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 standards, MFA, and a stated policy of never training external models on AI conversation data.
- An MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor query Userflow data, which is unusually deep AI-assistant integration for a tool this size.
Limitations
- The entry price is high for a small MAU allowance: $240 per month annually for 1,000 users on Essentials, against $279 for 2,000 at Chameleon and roughly $111 for 1,500 at Product Fruits.
- The AI agent is Studio-only and metered on credits, so the bill is variable and the included 500 answers a month will not go far in a product with real support volume.
- In-app only: no email, no push, no lifecycle messaging, so Userflow never replaces a customer messaging tool.
- Essentials leaves out custom CSS, custom event trackers, the CRM integrations, and SAML SSO, so many teams will find Studio is the real entry plan.
- The company is now part of Beamer rather than independent, and the founders who built its reputation as a three-person bootstrapped operation exited in 2024; buyers should evaluate the current roadmap on its merits, not on the old founding story.
Head-to-head comparisons
4 alternativesUserflow vs Jimo
from $79/mo (Adoption Agent, billed yearly; $99 monthly) or $429/mo (Adoption Suite, 2,000 MAU, billed yearly; $536 monthly)Jimo has the same shape as Userflow, a proactive onboarding product beside an in-app AI agent, but sells its agent on its own from $79 per month billed yearly with no MAU charge, where Userflow's agent comes only with the $400 Studio plan. Userflow's $240 Essentials plan is the cheaper way into proactive onboarding at 1,000 MAU, against Jimo's $429 Suite for 2,000. Pick Userflow for the builder and the lower entry; pick Jimo for a standalone agent and EU hosting by default.
Full Userflow vs Jimo comparisonUserflow vs Userpilot
from $299/mo (Starter, up to 2,000 MAU)Userpilot bundles onboarding with genuine product analytics and session replay, and its $299 Starter tier covers twice the MAU of Userflow's $240 Essentials plan. Userflow answers with a better builder, unlimited seats and experiences, EU data residency, and an AI agent that talks to your users rather than to your PM. Pick Userpilot if you want to consolidate analytics; pick Userflow if you want the guidance layer to be excellent and the AI to be user-facing.
Full Userflow vs Userpilot comparisonUserflow vs Product Fruits
from $111/mo (Starter at 1,500 MAU, billed annually)These two now compete on nearly identical ground: both pair onboarding flows with an AI assistant that answers user questions from your documentation. Product Fruits is far cheaper (about $111 per month annually at 1,500 MAU against $400 for Userflow's Studio, the plan with its AI agent, at 1,000) and includes a knowledge base. Userflow counters with a stronger builder, unlimited seats and experiences, Action Flows that complete tasks, and EU residency. Budget-led teams should start with Product Fruits; teams that will live in the builder daily should trial Userflow.
Full Userflow vs Product Fruits comparisonUserflow vs Chameleon
from $279/mo (Startup plan, 2,000 MTUs)Chameleon points its AI inward, detecting friction and auditing stale flows for the team, while Userflow points its AI outward at users through Adoption Agent. Chameleon is cheaper to start ($279 for 2,000 tracked users) and stronger on design control and localization; Userflow is stronger on builder speed, unlimited seats, and in-app AI support. Teams whose main pain is maintaining a sprawling flow library should look at Chameleon; teams whose main pain is inbound user questions should look at Userflow.

6 categoriesUserflow is a onboarding tool, and a team running it still has 6 neighbouring categories to staff. The pick in each is Mixpanel for product analytics & session replay, tawk.to for customer support platforms, ChartMogul for retention & churn prevention, Novu for notification infrastructure, Podia for community platforms and Creem for subscription billing, each the leading tool in that category on published criteria.
- MixpanelProduct Analytics & Session Replay · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow lists the entry price is high for a small MAU allowance among its limits. Mixpanel adds best self-serve analysis interface in the category for non-technical users.
- Benefit
- Feature usage and drop-off are measurable, so a roadmap argument can end with evidence.
- tawk.toCustomer Support Platforms · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow lists the AI agent is Studio-only and metered on credits among its limits. tawk.to adds unlimited agents and unlimited conversations.
- Benefit
- Questions arrive in one queue with a history attached, instead of scattered across personal inboxes.
- ChartMogulRetention & Churn Prevention · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow lists the company is now part of Beamer rather than independent among its limits. ChartMogul adds a genuinely free plan up to $10,000 MRR with full metrics.
- Benefit
- Accounts at risk surface while there is still time to call, rather than at renewal.
- NovuNotification Infrastructure · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow sends buyers elsewhere for email or push notifications. Novu adds stronger compliance posture than most open-source-first projects.
- Benefit
- Product events reach people on the channel they actually read, without building a sender for each one.
- PodiaCommunity Platforms · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow is built for onboarding, not community. Podia adds unlimited products on every plan.
- Benefit
- Customers answer each other in a space the company owns, rather than in a chat nobody can search.
- CreemSubscription Billing · Best Value
- Because
- Userflow is built for onboarding, not billing. Creem adds affiliate programs with automatic commission splits and revenue splits between partners.
- Benefit
- Recurring revenue bills, retries and reconciles itself, including the tax nobody wants to calculate.

Full Userflow stackImplementation & onboarding
- Setup time
- Userflow claims a first flow can be live in minutes, and the snippet install is the only step likely to need engineering. A properly targeted onboarding program with custom events and segments is more like one to two weeks of part-time work.
- Learning curve
- Among the lowest in the category. The builder's speed is the product's most consistently praised attribute, and no-code custom event tracking removes the usual dependency on engineering for trigger instrumentation. Adoption Agent adds a separate discipline: curating knowledge sources so answers are accurate.
- Onboarding
- Fully self-serve: a 14-day trial of Essentials or Studio with no credit card and no required sales call. Quickstart onboarding is included on Studio and Enterprise and costs a one-time $500 on Essentials; it is optional.
- Migration notes
- No automated importer from Appcues, Userpilot, or Chameleon; flows are rebuilt, though existing copy and screenshots transfer. Because the AI agent reads the same flow library, upgrading from Essentials to Studio requires no rebuild.
Platform, API & security
- Platforms
- Web app (JavaScript snippet)No-code flow builderMCP endpointREST API

Frequently asked questions
13 questionsWhat is Userflow?
Userflow is a no-code product adoption platform for SaaS companies. It proactively deploys tours, checklists, tooltips, banners, launchers, surveys, and NPS to targeted segments, and its Studio plan adds Adoption Agent, an in-app AI assistant that answers user questions, launches the right flow, and can complete tasks for the user.
How much does Userflow cost in 2026?
Essentials is $300 per month ($240 billed annually) and Studio is $500 per month ($400 billed annually), each including 1,000 monthly active users; Enterprise is custom. Extra MAU costs $40 per thousand at the low end, falling to $10 per thousand above 500,000, with custom pricing above 100,000 MAU on the self-serve plans. Studio includes 500 AI credits a month, and another 500 cost $50 per month.
Does Userflow have a free trial or free plan?
There is a 14-day free trial of either Essentials or Studio with no credit card required, but no permanently free plan.
What is the difference between Essentials and Studio?
Both include unlimited seats and experiences and deploy flows proactively on the conditions you set. Studio adds Adoption Agent, which is reactive: a user asks a question in chat, the agent finds the most relevant flow and guides them through it, or answers from your documentation if no flow fits. Studio also adds Action Flows, custom CSS, custom event trackers, HubSpot and Salesforce, SAML SSO, a third environment, and 12 months of analytics history instead of 6.
What is an AI credit in Userflow?
A credit is used each time Adoption Agent answers a user's question. Studio includes 500 credits per month and another 500 cost $50 per month; Enterprise allowances are custom. That makes the AI part of the bill variable, so estimate your support question volume before committing.
What happened to Userflow's older plans?
Startup, Pro, and the earlier 2026 Adoption Studio and Adoption Agent products are retired for new customers, but existing customers keep their current plan and pricing. Articles quoting $240 per month for 3,000 MAU or an $80 per month Adoption Agent describe plans you can no longer buy.
Was Userflow acquired?
Yes. Userflow was founded in 2018 by Esben Friis-Jensen and Sebastian Seilund, bootstrapped to roughly $4.6M ARR with a three-person team, and was acquired by Beamer in 2024. The product continues to be sold and developed under the Userflow brand, and the 2026 repackaging came after the acquisition.
Does Userflow support EU data residency?
Yes. Userflow offers both US and EU data residency on Google Cloud Platform, is SOC 2 Type II certified, meets ISO 27001 standards, is GDPR compliant, and states that AI conversation data is never used to train external models. That is a stronger residency story than several US-only competitors in this category.
Do I need a developer to use Userflow?
Only for the install. Userflow says flows can be built without engineering, and that the JavaScript snippet installation takes a few minutes and may need minimal engineering help. No-code custom event tracking means even trigger instrumentation usually avoids an engineering ticket.
How many seats does Userflow include?
Unlimited team members on every plan, with two environments on Essentials and three on Studio. That is a meaningful cost difference against Chameleon, which sells seats in packs of five at $300 per month, and Userpilot, which caps seats at three on Starter and fifteen on Growth.
What should I pair Userflow with?
Userflow is a onboarding tool, and a team running it still has 6 neighbouring categories to staff. The pick in each is Mixpanel for product analytics & session replay, tawk.to for customer support platforms, ChartMogul for retention & churn prevention, Novu for notification infrastructure, Podia for community platforms and Creem for subscription billing, each the leading tool in that category on published criteria.
What do I pair with Userflow for Product Analytics & Session Replay?
Mixpanel. Userflow lists the entry price is high for a small MAU allowance among its limits. Mixpanel adds best self-serve analysis interface in the category for non-technical users.
Is Userflow enough on its own?
For onboarding, yes. Userflow does not cover customer support platforms, retention & churn prevention and notification infrastructure, and its own profile says so; tawk.to, ChartMogul and Novu are the tools that fill those gaps.
Editorial verdict
Userflow makes the best builder in this category and, with Adoption Agent, the most convincing case that in-app guidance is turning into in-app assistance: an agent that answers a question, launches the right walkthrough, and with Action Flows finishes the job for the user is a genuinely different product from a tooltip library. The pricing is less flexible than it was: the cheap standalone agent is gone, Essentials starts at $240 per month for 1,000 MAU, and the AI agent needs Studio at $400. Unlimited seats and experiences on every plan soften that for teams that build a lot, and the shared flow library means starting on Essentials and adding the agent later costs no rebuild.
